A practical approach to finance

I am Costas, an ACA-qualified chartered accountant. My career has taken me from audit at PwC to commercial deal analysis at Avanade and now to group finance transformation. Audit taught me to question the numbers. Commercial work taught me to connect them to the decision a business needs to make.

Today I work directly with group executives in a multinational group of 185 legal entities and around 160 operating companies. My work brings together reporting, acquisition analysis and finance systems, often across different currencies and sources of data.

I build reporting templates, financial models and reconciliation processes that colleagues can use and maintain. That includes clear mapping rules, operating procedures and checks, so the work can carry on after a handover and serve more than one company.

I am curious about new technology and adopt it early where it helps. AI and low-code tools can speed up document processing, analysis and workflow design. Finance still owns the result: figures must be checked against defined rules, traceable to their sources and reviewed by a person.

Understand the finance first

I agree the accounting treatment, responsibilities and review process before automating the work.

Make it useful for the next person

I build reusable templates and models with clear instructions, so teams can run and maintain them.

Check what AI produces

AI helps with extraction, analysis, coding and difficult exceptions. Rule-based checks remain responsible for validating the numbers.

Explain what the numbers mean

The work should help someone make a decision. I make the assumptions and conclusions clear enough to question.

    Deepening governed AI workflows, group data architecture and BI delivery to extend finance transformation from reporting into operations.

    Group finance and AI-augmented automation, Fameline

    Head of Group Finance Transformation — working directly with the Group CFO and CEO. Leads reporting transformation, ERP remediation, finance-data architecture and governed AI delivery across a 185-entity multinational.

    Deal shaping and pricing, Avanade

    Shaped complex commercial models and led the financial architecture for the largest European deal in the firm's 15-year history.
